Let see, what to talk about first... !
Ford's small blocks respond best to a head change... the fastest way to increase the performance is get a set of Trick Flow Street Heads. You can gain a quick 50- 75 HP by just bolting them on.
A good set of header should go along with the Heads; letting the engine breathe better includes a way to let the burnt gas out.
Then the intake... and yes the cam is a biggy; the choices are vast and everyone has an opinion, as I do, I like a higher lift cam with a short duration... lets the valves open wide but for a short time. Gives the engine a little more low end power, which is what most of us need, some of us just don't know it ! Don't just buy the cam based on an opinion, which it what a lot if us do, if you think the Cam choice is a problem, call the cam manufacturer of the Cam you are thinking on and consult with them, have all your other specs available, i.e. heads, headers, gear ratio, trans, tier size, etc. ! They will surprise you with a quick choice and from my experience... a good one !
The gear ratios, hard one really, what do you want to do with the truck, what cam are you using and when does the power come in. Most people go with the tire size but if you change your tire size and the engine isn't setup for the rpm, it won't work as well as it should. If you already have your gears in place, then work the other parts around that. Most of the Ranger/Ex Swaps the people use the Ex Cam, it works, but it doesn't work the best !
The header thing always bothered me, Torque Monsters or something like it appear to be the way to go, I really wish there were other choice in design.
Headers will let the gases out after they burn, they can scavenge the combustion chambers and get the left over gases out of the way allowing a new fresh fuel/Ox charge to get in and as much burnt gases out as possible.
From there because of the fresh charge, the great breathing heads, and if the the intake is working the ignition is working, and all your choices work as they should, you get good horse power.
Choice wisely, make sure which ever parts you buy will work together. Contact the Manufacturers when selecting your parts !
OK, I lost what ever I was going to say about what ever it was so I will leave the rest of my comments for another time.
Rear axle looks good.

Just an added note, I have found that a 302/5.0L-W have sufficient power to get the job done. I have seen 5.0L turn 9 seconds in the quarter mile, but if I were to do a swap again, with a new build, I think I would go 331 or a 331 Kit but 4.0" bore, which would get you to a 327 cu. in. engine. Something from 327 to 331 would be a great size for the Ranger. The 347, although you don't hear much about the oil consumption that used to flood the information hy-way, I still wonder about how it was fixed, the extra length of the connecting rod for the added stroke, drives the wrist pins into the lower oil rail, which is where the extra oil consumption hits but since we haven't heard much about it lately, it may have been worked out !
