It seems like I've said "Last trip of the year" like three times now, but I keep getting "talked into" going out again....   oh well  haha

So this past weekend I went to Haspin Acres in south east Indiana with a few guys I go to school with. Haspin is 750 acres of hills, creeks and woods. They have miles of trails that are minimally marked and maintained. They also have a lot of clay, that turns into a greasy mess when it rains. In fact, we almost bailed on the trip because of all the rain and snow they got last week. But, we decided to take a chance and spend a weekend playing around in the mud. It rained on and off most of the day Saturday, but Sunday was absolutely beautiful.

There were 4 of us in total in 3 rigs (my ranger, a 2012 JK, and a '95 geo tracker). This was the maiden voyage for the tracker.

We ran a few of the creek beds first, as they were some of the few places that weren't covered in 6" of mud.

Muddy Ranger (a common theme for the weekend).

Poser flex shot

The mighty Geo Tracker (or "Geo Tractor"). This little turd was gettin it all weekend.

More mud, more flex

My rustic, open-air, sleeping arrangements. I didn't want to sent a tent up in the mud, so I pulled the truck up under this pavilion thing and slept in the bed. It was actually pretty comfortable. Granted, it was only in the mid to low 40s at night.

The weather greatly improved for Sunday; 60F and Sunny

Stopping to check out the trail ahead (we ended up finding a work around for a pretty aggressive hill).

We stopped for lunch on the trail. The long wheel based Ranger can be a handful sometimes, but the storage space is second to none  haha

Jeeper though he was cool.

Planning our next move.

More planning

"Where are we going?"
"...UP"

Only casualty for the weekend: the silhouette license plate bracket.  I was a little worried it was gonna be in harms way with the new bumper. Guess I got my answer...   haha

Airing up as some late afternoon clouds rolled in.

As usual, it was a great weekend in the woods, even if it was a little sloppy. The truck probably had a couple hundred pounds of clay caked on it. I spent 30 minutes at the car wash yesterday and got most of the topside washed off. I haven't touched the undercarriage yet... that should be fun  haha

Wow, it's been a while since I've had anything to add to this thread! It's been a long winter here in the frigid north (otherwise known as Ohio), and other than a short trip on new years day, it's been a winter without wheeling :'(. Thankfully, we broke the offroading drought this weekend with a trip to Wellsville, OH with the Glass City Crawlers four wheel drive club.

We had 16 rigs, including THREE FORDS (the rest were jeeps... shocker  haha). We aired down at a rest stop a few miles away from the forbidden zone campground.

There's a fun little trail along the side of the haul road up to camp, so we stopped to play.

FORDS!   FORDS IN THE WOODS!

Then we continued on up to the camp and lined up for the traditional group photo by the powerline towers.

From there, we made our way down the first powerline hill. Pictures never really show how steep this hill is. I generally don't get nervous behind the wheel, but this hill always make me uncomfy

After we all made it down the hill, we broke up into two groups (trying to get 16 rigs through the woods together can be a pain). I ran with the 35s and under group. My group dropped down into the creek bed and headed for the dam.

So... uhhhh....  may have forgotten to take pictures of said dam...  lol   But we stopped for lunch at the top of it.

The dam is kind of a dead end, so we turned around and headed back down the creek, en route to the water fall.

Made it to the waterfall. Nobody in our group attempted. Its a pretty gnarly climb with a high chance of body damage.

After the waterfall we headed up to the upper and lower twister. I kinda stopped taking pictures around this time as the rain picked up and the truck started making some funny grinding noises...  BUT, the ranger ran upper twister and didn't re-arrange any sheet metal (thanks to my fancy new rock sliders!)!  There are a few videos floating around, I'll try and post one here.

After the twisters, we made our way back to camp and out to the paved road. This was easier said than done, as the rain had turned the clay into peanut butter. There was a lot of winching involved...

So, uh, remember that "funny grinding noise" i mentioned earlier?

Turns out the drivers front wheel bearing had let loose. The tire was leaning bad enough that the rotor had worn through the inner brake pad and had started rubbing on the caliper bracket. So, I swapped the drivers hub out Sunday morning in the hotel parking lot. Thankfully, there was an O'rielly's right around the corner, and The hub was still under warranty, so I only had to buy a set of brake pads. Took about an hour to swap the hubs and it made the 200mile trip home without skipping a beat.

Update time! It's been a busy few months for me, but I've had the truck out on a pair of wheeling trips since Wellsville.

Over memorial day weekend, Bundy Hill Offroad had a veterans ride along event where local clubs volunteered to give rides to veterans who were interested in offroading but didn't have rigs of their own. Veteran turn out was a little low unfortunately, but we had a great day of wheeling anyway.

My buddy Brian's bronco II "Giligan" stretching its legs.

For the most part, we had a miserable spring here in the midwest. But, we had a rare beautiful rain-free day for this event.

Beached ranger  :fp   The trucks long wheel base bit me in ass here.....  the big tire in my way didn't help either  lol

A few weeks later, a smaller group of us went up to Rocks and Valleys Offroad in north-central Michigan for a weekend of camping and wheeling.

We started the day with this little rock crawl. After a several unsuccessful attempts, I ended up having to back down and take the bypass. The open diffs and 33" tires weren't having it... haha    A few of the bigger tire guys also struggled, so I didn't feel quite as bad.

We had 3 Fords on this trip, one of which was a first gen explorer with a 5spd manual.

#Fords

These next few show the somebody's ranger beached like a silver whale again...   haha   Its hard to tell in the picture, but there is large rock under the passenger side that was picking up that side of the truck. I ended up getting winched up and over it.

Had a great time on both trips, and now I've got a bunch maintenance and  work to do...  haha

Wow, the ranger went over 5 months without a wheeling trip :'(  Granted, it was on jack stands for three of those months...  lol

Went on a new years day trip with the local 4wd cub. We went to Bundy Hill Offroad in Jerome, Mi.   I didn't take many pictures, I was able to steal a few from the jeeps :P. This was the trucks first trip out with the near gears and rear locker.
