I am a bit jaded about Valdosta. I was there in the early 80's as a college student when the female to male ratio was 6:1. I was destined for failure being the horny SOB that I was.

lol.. well in my defense when I was a young man, the chances of you catching an STD were like 1:40 and in today's world that far closer to 1:4 and I am "Deathly" allergic to Penicillin and the mental precurser has been mostly LTR's. Getting women was never an issue, getting RID of them becomes an issue.

It's also why I date young, a little drama can be tolerable if not a bit interesting at times.. Being some older THOT's idea of a 401K plan when she brings nothing to the table but her bodily assets in exchange for half+ my lifes work/gain is a no fly zone for me anymore.

Married once, only thing worth the trouble was my 3 boys. I may do it once more under careful scrutiny and if she is willing and capable of building that life with me. Marriage isn't a career challenge I'm into. My father was married 5 times.. NO THANKS

Today was pretty productive and exciting day for the 94' Donor truck 4x4 frame. Yep.. finally got that Mutha@&$%#! off the frame so I can strip it down to basic frame for the media blasting shop before I start welding it in for boxing the frame in, hard facing it, and modding it for my needs.

Although, seeing this does make me wanna build a driveway grader low rider version.. lol

Maybe not right now tho.. ha!

I will certainly be making up for the last 3 weeks of dragging feet and or not meeting certain portions of my goals this week and next that is for sure. Trying to make best use of all my daylight as I can. Its already getting darker closer to 1930hrs which in Vegas time means I lost an hour of daylight already at the end of the day for the season as it changes to cooler temps which will help.

So as I summarized this afternoon as to what the loose itinerary will be. I am going to be doing the following:

  • Digitally document every inch of the frame as is first. Left, right, inside and out and from above and catalog every bolt, nut, bracket, hole used or not used, harness routing, brake lines, fuel lines, everything as it is done for both reference and documentation purposes.
  • Pull the fuel tank
  • Pull driveshaft
  • Pull whats left of the exhaust
  • Pull body and supplement harnesses
  • Pull brake lines and E Brake cable
  • Remove spare tire mount and brackets
  • Remove rear axle and figure out what gear it may be and if it could be open or LSD equipped
  • Remove rear leaf springs
  • Remove front & rear sway bars
  • Remove front TTB as complete left & right units
  • Remove radius arms
  • Removal of all unnecessary items, brackets, OEM silencing materials (bed area / 4 patches of goo on frame rail)

From there I'll see whats left and if i had missed anything that just didn't come to mind mentally just yet or anything obscure.

Today after a Saturday morning meeting of the minds, I was able to make use of the big giant heat lamp in the sky and took 38 pics of every inch of the frame in/out, above, as well making mental notes of orientation of details on the frame.

Was also able to do the following at least too:

  • Removed fuel tank
  • Removed body wiring harness
  • Removed cat-back factory exhaust
  • Removed fuel lines with exception of the forward bolt.
  • Removed driveshaft from rear axle
  • Removed remaining rear shock
  • Started removing forward brake lines while inspecting them

Hopefully get a chance to get in it tomorrow again too. So until then...

Still need to remove the guard plate at the front before the fuel filter.

Also, aside from the obvious plastic push pins. I seem to be lost in the proper removal of the OEM wheel well guards/lips. Any advice on their removal?

yea.. a lil bit.

I'm hoping this weekend to:

  • Get the rear end off
  • Get the leaf springs off
  • Figure out the fuel line guard to get that all the way off
  • Pull the frt & rear Sway bars off
  • Pull misc speed clips and label them in ziplock bags for organization
  • Pull the rest of the screws and bolts out of the wheel well guards from the trailer bed
  • And maybe... loosen up the front TTB and get it out of the way too.

And either Tuesday or Wednesday.. I'm gonna to be forced into cutting that cab up for scrap as I figured.. Oh well.

Been a bit.. lots changed, other things needed to be done.. Great opportunities on the horizon to test out and try.

Small day trip to get away was needed to reset some thoughts after working 18hr days/7 days since end of November.. Back down to 9 hr days and some celebratory fun was needed to get away.

Also, putting the 4Runner on hold some with its mods. The Flip-pac on the Ranger is in need of some attention, upgrades, and fabrication mods both. To do so will be best to remove it while doing so.

The bed will be naked for a short bit as a temporary Front Runner bed rack setup in the truck bed which will be used with the eventual use of an RTT in preparation for use and re-installation into the trailer build that is needed to be worked on more when I can as the that will complete that project and work towards the next and an expensive phase for me - A Norweld tray & canopy  I've been eye  ing for awhile now and working my ass of towards! Yea, I know.. I'm a fan-boy of 12* North, whatever..

This pic reminds me of the beginning of all the changes and how other nothing seems relevant than that faded blue paint that is going away soon too... Oooops did I just say that out loud ?!

Great project, congratulations! I was wondering where you have your second battery located?

Best regards,

Secondary battery system was/is an interesting design task.. Its been awhile since I've updated anything on the forums here or elsewhere and i don't have any of the build photos up either of course during the progress yet.  But the spare tire carrier rack under the Ford Ranger provides a creative opportunity in my opinion.

I've taken an Alum-box 67L Size modified it internally to side saddle a pair (@2) of Exide AGM 200 marine batteries for a couple reasons but they offered over 4.5X the vibration protection of a typical heavy duty, anchor-bonded product, and over 14X the vibration protection compared to a standard similar built or priced batteries out there and I've had great luck with Exide in hot places specifically considering heat kills batteries. Plus my favorite shop here carries them..

Anyway, The National Luna setup works great keeping everything charged as it should, main batteries first which is rather quick considering I have the 130A Alternator swapped in and not everything I need to account for inside or outside for that matter. Once I do, I'll be doing a quite a bit of power source swapping for some more convenient and smarter reasons.  And then the 280w static alternator will go in and complete that portion and make the 1/0 Cable be more useful.

Other options that came in after the fact was of course the need and desire for a solar setup for backup options that don't require the engine to be ran while either recharging or maintaining while in use during the day, and the addition of a shore plug so I can plug in somewhere to a 120v power source.

The Spare tire rack lends to the reduced space in the bed or under the hood, its near same specs as a OEM spare tire in size and keeps the extra weight of such plus a bit more down low and mostly between the rear frame rails really.  It also allows me to lower down the space and access the batteries should I need to check them or maintain anything, check seals or main fuses inside.  Plus, its my hope to find a 4BTa 3.9L Cummins to swap in and when I do.. again my favorite shop has access to a 34gal extended fuel tank that fits where the factory one does and then some and things will really balance out.

I'll try to spend some time updating this further.

Hi, remember me?

After numerous threats, arguments, near lawsuits.. There is the possibilities that some or most of the pics in this write-up may disappear.

As valid were the arguments of some to dump pics into the gallery in the beginning, as was my own arguments of having a site like other forums that allow you the right to EDIT: your own posts. That was met with a stern "No.." and few people like change here, most notably displayed by the ornery way a large majority drive 20+ yr old vehicles.

However, there is no way I can manage to continue to convey my story or path with only 250 Pics, as only allowed by Photobucket's hostage and extortion rules, so I've been forced into deleting my personal Photobucket account.

I have painstakingly taken the time to copy and paste the entire thread into 6 pages of Word .doc's to keep a digital record of how and where pics were.  I'm going to clean up my gallery as so not to shock Jim's server and re-load each pic in their perspective places.. I'e been gone so long you might not even notice me anyway.

I do however have to wait on the results of what happens as I delete the Photobucket account, and I will be on/off to monitor and address as I can and or Just take a step down from my 88k views, comments, opinions, and likes and start over.

Sorry for any inconvenience

So, been busy with life, investments, the woman, career changes, Ex-wife fires to put out, and the important stuff like building the truck, a part of many greater things took precedence over personal hobbies and interests.

That being said..

The new Pilot program for the '93 Ranger is going to dramatically change. Yes, DRAMATICALLY change.. you read what I said.

I will be finishing out the 2023 summer season in the current and almost notably known Flip-Pac setup albeit with a few changes not recently posted.

There have been a couple larger mods I have not been able to pull off due to other more important long term commitments but some of those commitments are maturing and now those mods will pay-off in multiple ways for the future.  I am not going to divulge the new plan just yet, there is a set up to it that needs to be outlined properly and some major coordination put in place but overall..

Someone hold my beer!

In other news,..

Going to enjoy the Flip-Pac for 2 more upcoming trail runs; one longer 10 day run and another a few weeks later of a 3-4 day run.  After which I will be removing and setting aside the Flip-Pac to do some modifications and improvement based resto-work on it to plan out another 93/94 Ranger build, this time around on a Super-Cab build for the Flip-Pac which has been a long time 2 Diner-napkins of a plan.

I just joined a 7 month lead time for the newest of major updates and probably the most costly outside of buying a project vehicle itself, at least for me, * back to this in a moment.  There is a lot to catch up on and get done

First, needing to get back on track with the 4WD frame, finish some design change welding work for a rear mounted winch and get that out to powder coating rather than just rattle can painting it.  Its completely rust free so i am going to take advantage of that and protect the frame further for another 29 years hopefully.  But without this done I can't get everything else done at all.

Sourcing all of the hard-lines for replacement brake lines on the frame resto, I contemplated scaling up to a .25" (1/4") line in replacement of the 0.1875" (3/16") stock lines, but despite more fluid volume, its said there is near no pressure difference that would increase pressure or reaction and unnecessary for anything less than a 6 pot caliper.  It was also said that the 0.1875" (3/16") releases the pressure faster for retraction of the brakes on calipers and that may be a better reaction need. Same with fuel lines in preparation for a proto-typed extended fuel tank that might be modified from a Australian Ford Courier as a base.  What makes a difference is the reality of the two engine options. I may just S/C the 4.0 with some internal mods, or if there is enough in the budget left.. I want to slap a 4BTa in it, that was always the original desire, problem is everyone selling one acts like they're sleeved with palladium and with solid gold valve covers.. and it was paw-paw's favorite motor.

Additionally the current wiring system for all AUX will be stripped out, completely from front to back with some components that will be reused but essentially its going all Redarc control/monitoring.  So all the new AUX battery wiring, rear mounted winch wiring, as well as all other AUX wiring for additional features will be re-mapped out and actual plug & play harnesses will be made.

The build plan, restaurant napkin style:

I am finally choosing to replace the 28 spline 8.8 3.73 Limited-Slip rear end. Opting for a completely worked over 31 spline 8.8 build. Not looking for the disc rear brakes necessarily, I am looking at the fact the axle handles an additional 675-750 lbs of payload capacity more-so over its littler brother 28 spline (8.8) in the current setup.;

  • Replacement shafts - (Any open advice on the C-Clip mod on the rear end?)
  • All new seals and bearings
  • 4.88 gears
  • Selectable locker [still debating on E / Air-locker based on front options matching the rear]
  • Axle Truss & gusset brace kit
  • Custom rear leafs complimented w/2.0 External reservoir shocks, w/adjustable settings (sandbagging the brand options for now)

Front TTB I am debating staying with the Dana 35,.. still researching other options like seeking out a Dana 44 setup from a 70's Bronco and working that over to match the rear. Even if that meant skipping the Dana 35 altogether and just going to the Dana 44 option with the aforementioned setup.

  • Dana 35/44 cut and turned beams (4") for a Mid-travel setup w/knuckle swap from a Dana 44
  • Differential skid plate

  • Matching the rear with front 4.88 gears
  • Debating on just doing a front LSD or finding a matching if possible complimenting selectable locker to the rear; i.e. Eaton, ARB, Tru-Trac
  • 4" Lift springs, also complimented with 2.0 External reservoir shocks, w/adjustable settings
  • Upgraded pitman arm and linkage

Brakes

  • Fronts will be a custom set Big Brake kit 12" slotted rotors, 4-6 piston calipers, and re-use of existing SS soft lines, Ill be keeping with a 17" wheel, maybe a 16" if I can find the wheel I want in that size.
  • Rears will be all new drums w/Heavy-Duty upgraded shoes, wheel cylinders, and if I can find a set of rear SS soft lines. If the rear axle is from a 95+, I will find a better rotor/pads, upgrade the caliper as well the rear soft lines to SS lines.

At this point, the rolling chassis of the Ranger should be what "I want" to consider "near-bullet-proof", anything more I may as well convert it into an MRAP.  For everything I have done over the years, I've not had any problems or too many limitations yet with what I have done, but I wouldn't say I have not totally tested the Ranger on every technical trail/popular overland destinations either.  The new goal is to increase reliability, strength with more durability in mind, some track width for more stability (4") wider, and remove the 2" Body lift and doing a full 4" lift over the current 2" lift which is not going to do what I want let alone need.

There is a lot already to catch up on, source, order, pay for, and then install..  More in the next post.

When I looked into the C clip mod it seemed more for drag racing then off roading.
