so I have seen on some rangers behind the grills there is what I would call a "air dam" that routes air to the radiator directly instead of air going into the grill and going where ever it want. My question is if I were to find one at a JY would it fit a 2005?

A air dam below the front bumper is designed to reduces drag because it directs air toward the ground and away from the truck’s rough underbodies. While a  more ducted flow path between the grille and radiator prevents air from swirling inside the truck’s front cavities or gathering under the hood.

Which is why OLD SCHOOL guys (and now you'll see the Tuner crowds doing it too although albeit many do it for aesthetics than knowing why they do it), would take the rubber seal out from across under the hood/firewall area.. Space the brackets from the hood itself with a few washers and maybe newer longer bolts.

What this does is actually release the under hood pressures which contain heat and it allows a path of somewhat least resistance for the air rushing through the front of the vehicle to enter fully into the radiator flue area and sweep through the engine bay, the accelerated speeds would create a suction/venting of sorts, plus the air rushing over the vehicles aerodynamics would create a pressure just off the surface of the vehicle and draw the hotter air out keeping those temps down more. So the theory goes.

Another thing to consider is vents or hood louvers. If you put them closer to the front of the hood it will help aid in the cooling of the radiator. Move them farther back, it will reduce under hood pressures and temps as well.

In either fashion the lower the temps either via Radiator temps, or over all engine temp, or both you'll enhance better performance and power.

No Maxx, If I am correct in his interpretation of "an air dam", hes speaking of the one that some call a chin spoiler in some case but it is usually referring to the small 2.5"-4" lip that protrudes generally under and or just behind the actual bumper itself on some vehicles.



Generally its that annoying plastic bib that catches on most parking blocks for many.. lol The rangers look different generation to generation and even in between some years from what I can recall.

Unless hes specifically looking at the different ones that attach to the bumpers with different fog light applications between squared and round.. I believe this is what the OP is looking for without his further clarifications.
