I didn't read all of the posts, sorry, but if the radios are similar in quality, their performance should be the same. Ford's OEM Radio is a good radio all around and has good reception, so if you are using an OEM Ford single din radio as a base you may have lost already trying to make low cost aftermarket radios work swell as they do !
If you are having reception problems, first get a good quality radio, second get a good exterior antenna approximately 36" long, add grounds to the chassis of the radio to a good ground inside the vehicle and make sure the antenna has a good ground. After that its all about what is on the air.
If you have an OEM setup, it should still receive and give decent tunes, but you might want to get one of the Digital Toy hookup. I used one, didn't think it was going to be a big deal, just going to listen to my digital music right... wrong, it was amazing how this little device going between my iPod and OEM Radio, turned the radio into an incredible sounding music box. You could hear all of the highs, the lows and everything in between. So if you want to keep the OEM Unit and still play your digital stuff look into a digital interface.
I will look up what I was using, it was called something... -USA !
Back to the first question, "is a booster going fix my problem?"
No... it might be louder but not always clearer. Some of the Boosters bring in white noise which is static and static makes for bad sounds, and if you have an amp... more noise !
I am not an audiophile, not a Auto Electrican, not even a good mechanic but I do know clear sounds and I do know how to work around a noise problem but it is far easier to start with good equipment and work from there.
added:
I got the "USA" in the wrong place it is called "USA Spec iPod Adapter" but has other digital attachments too. I have not googled the unit and it may not exist anymore, electronics change fast these days, but it is something to look into instead of taking the OEM Ford Radio and replace it with another unit that may or may not be as good audio wise.

Believe me with a half way decent speakers, I was using the Explorer Pioneer Speakers front and rear, this little unit made my old 2003 OEM Ford Radio sound like a digital music machine. Some of it may have been the Explorer Speakers but I think its s a good unit for us guys with just an OEM Radio... with only a CD player ! Last edited on Sun Dec 24th, 2017 12:53 am by Scrambler82
