Never saw the inside of one of those. Really not much in there to go wrong. Clean it, new seal and pop it back together!

Nice! The nylon glide pads and the pickup tube for the pump are the two parts to check the most. Now you have peace of mind
Knowledge is power!!
CHAIN is HUGE in a 4406, overkill in a Ranger for sure........

Make sure you clean and lube the slip yoke seal when you install the driveshaft...I always put a little vaseline or assembly lube on the seal before plunging in the drive shaft...

When I start to tear down something I'm not familiar with, I try to take some pictures as I go. That helps eliminate the possibility of having spare parts when I'm done! :)

The black ring was already laying in the bottom of the case, as for the shift fork my fault 😩

if it was laying in the case then it must have come off when you split the halves, so it should be quite obvious where it goes?

The shift fork can only go in one way!

this link has a breakdown of the internal parts, hope this helps???

Well I bolted the case back together, torqued everything down to find it doesn’t seem to have 2wd. 😡🤬. I can shift it 4 high 4 low but when I go to 2wd, the front drive shaft flange keeps spinning. I thought I put the shift cam thingy back onto the shift fork like it came apart.

Edit: I let my cool go a bit since I fought with lining the case up for about 25 minutes...

The front driveshaft will spin even in 2WD on anything 2000 or better. With live axles it spins the differential which spins the driveshaft. Does the light go out and how does it feel when you turn? You should feel a big difference in a hard turn either direction especially on pavement between 4 hi and 2 hi.

I like your thinking-that my truck is already v8 swapped hahaha. I’m spinning the input shaft on my bench and can’t stop spinning the front flange without stopping the input shaft.

Figured out my problem... the shift can some how jumped off the shift fork, at least that’s how I found it when I opened it back up. I got 2wd back!! So now onto valve springs and seals.

😎😎😎😎 agreed! Hopefully the truck will have a spot soon enough for the swap to truly begin. I’m looking for someone to come to my garage to replace the cab corners while the body is off the frame but no luck at the moment...

Bitchin! I know opening the 4406 was a big deal for you, but you battled through it and now you are better for it!!

Why don't you replace your own cab corners?
Ever heard of 3m panel bond adhesive? ]
No welding required which makes rust an easier thing to beat.........

A little trick I found out is that when lining the shift cam and fork, it’s best to push the whole shifting assembly all the way against the case then put a pair of vice grips on the part that sticks out where the shift motor would go thru the case. That way it keeps everything tight. With that trick I had the case back together with in 5 minutes and it seems to be shifting just fine.

As for the cab corners, I’d prefer to have them welded on. Eventually I’ll have the whole truck painted

Wow I’m bringing my cough dead cough thread back! Front drive on the motor is a go! I’m waiting on some shims for the valve springs now.

So, I need to finish the wiring bit (waiting to get the motor in the truck for that),  change the rear main seal on the motor. I still have to order a fan blade, clutch, trans cooler lines, a universal exhaust pipe kit, fuel filter, transmission mount.

I’m probably just gona order either stage one or two j modded valve body (275~ bucks) from Silverfox Performance Transmission. Heck it even comes with a filter and new gaskets!

Political correctness. You have to have one black injector for every 7 orange ones.

Orange are #19 and aren't blacks #24?

I was wondering when someone would notice. It’s a aftermarket replacement from advance auto. I got two with the same part number the other is the same as factory colors. I really hope it’s not a different size.
