The new one goes fine, but hammers into all gears, upshift and downshift though they seem to be happening at the proper rpm.

First of all from what I can gather I have a 4R44E being a 2000 and a 3.0.

I've read till I'm blue and it all seems to be pointing to a TCC solenoid that is sticky and makes the torque converter lock.

Does anyone have experience with this 4R44E and can confirm I am in the right place?

More of a nuisance than a problem but I would like to fix it so when I yank the engine and tranny I can sell them together as a good pair.

Smart man
I would swap the TCC solenoid and while you are in there possibly the valve body gaskets. If budget allows do the shift solenoids also.

How many miles on this 4r?

As you probably know most 4r issues are leaky separator gaskets. If you catch these early enough you can save a good trans from going bad

4r has less than 140K. No idea previous maintenance ethics.

140K and 99.9% of owners = never been serviced
4r55e biggest issue is leaky separator gaskets
but can lead to bigger issues
Sounds like you have a converter lock up OR line pressure issue
Have you tried scanning live data to see what the PCM is commanding and when?
Check for manufacture specific (trans) codes?
