I'm not sure if this will interest anyone on here, but feel free to ask any questions.

I had enough of the steering whine and swapped a Saginaw power steering pump in the truck. I know this is more an issue for some people than others. I had been through a motorcraft and a few aftermarket pumps and have always had a terrible whine when turning. It took a lot of research and to find a pump, pulley and power steering hose that all worked together for the truck. I ended up making two adapters to mount the pump to the bracket which I cut and grinded up to fit the larger pump and reservoir. I had a shop put a new fitting on the pressure line to fit into the new pump. Not all the prettiest but strong and functional. I had plenty of unforeseen issues along the way, took a few weeks to find the time and parts to get it together but so glad I did. I ended up needing a longer belt as well. After getting the air bled out of the system, it's nearly silent in all situations. I've driven it probably 10 times since and went wheeling for a couple hours to put some stress on it.

I'd drive that one even if it whined! Good job on the pump, perhaps a part number for the saginaw? Out of the 5 I have driven in the past 2 years only two of them had the whine, the one I drive daily is quiet believe it or not.

I'm thinking there was a shift in parts they used or suppliers of pumps varied.

Welcome to the forum BTW- :)

I have a friend with a truck that's dead quiet. I had replaced the rack once and pump about 3 times and have always had a loud whine. Thanks for the reply and welcome!

The pump is out of a 79 ford f350, I bought it at orielly. Part number for pump, 732-0105

Is yours a 2000? I didn't get a good look at the tail lights.

And did you notice any difference in steering... easier or harder or??

My truck is a 2000. I wouldn't say its any easier or softer honestly. Maybe a barely easier with normal use. Off road, however, the steering would get hot and it would be difficult to turn the wheel if I wasn't moving. That is no longer the case.

Too bad A1 Cardone doesn't still make the direct bolt in version anymore. I looked into this before but having to put that much work into making it work pushed me away from it.

Glad someone pulled it off.

I feel the same way. It would have been so simple. I was tired of struggling with the steering off road. It took a lot longer than I thought it would but I would definitely recommend it. Absolutely worth it.

Many times the "whine" is because someone put reg power steering fluid in it and not ATF.. Cant do that. Reg power steering fluid damages the seals and eventually the power steering motor itself.

Mine whined like crazy when I first got it from the PO and it leaked horribly too. Some of the leaking is still there but no where near where it used to be and after cycling ATF back through the system and getting as much of the old stuff out it only whines when its thirsty.

It def needs to be rebuilt or replaced with 410Customs suggestion of the Redhead

I hear ya. My truck has never had anything but ATF in the steering system.
