Swapped in the steering wheel from an Expedition.  Color matches my 02 Ranger and is in perfect condition as opposed to the original where the foam under the leather had failed.

Spent a bit of time sorting out the wiring for everything.

Horn, lights on buttons work, no reported fault with air bag.

But, cruise ctrl does not work.  Tried the "button test".  The cruise control light flashes signaling start of test but no other button presses get a response.

What are the chances that only the Off button works?  Is it possible the 02 cruise module does not like the 04 button set?

Not sure if trying a different set of buttons or different module is the rational next step.

Ideas anyone?

I would pull the airbag and verify connectivity and continuitiy before going to far. I had a pinched wire in mine that had all the right side buttons not working.

I'd spend some time with an ohm meter and both steering wheels on the bench. Only way to tell what is going on without an electrical diagram for both.

WHICH might not be 100% correct anyway... on my 00 daily driver the positive and negative are inverted on the left cruise pod, found this out after about an hour of staring at the wiring diagrams and wondering why Buggman's LED mod wasn't working. The light wires are opposite to what the diagram says.

2004 Expedition and 2002 Ranger have different resistance values for each button.

Think I'll source a newer cruise ctrl module.

That steering wheel and cruise ctrl button set were pretty common in rwd Fords in early to mid 2000's so a matching module should be easy to find.
