Been a while eh?
The rear end on this one was humming from the beginning. A couple weeks ago it took a turn for the worse and started "crunching".
I made it home and parked it thinking "good thing I have that torsen in the garage".
So I tried all the accessories I bought for the Torsen (it was an 8.8 4.10 gear 31 tooth spline out of a FX4 Level 2 but had drums) like the disk brake plates, calipers, rotors... everything seemed to fit fine.
I wanted to take it apart and clean it out since sometime in its life it took on some moisture and had some powder rust in a couple spots, plus I wanted to paint it.
I bought seals and oil and friction modifier and a few other things. Marked the pinion well so I could just clean the bearing and put a new seal in.
When I pulled the pinion out here is what I found:
