Am I the last person to figure this out? Life is changed forever! Stop laughing.

Anyhow, when you think about it it makes sense. How tall are my tires?

The first number, 205, 245, 265 whatever is the cross section in millimeters.

The second number is the aspect ratio.

The third number is the rim diameter. In inches go figure.

A 225/60/16 would be (in inches for us on this side of the pond):

225MM * .6 (60% aspect ratio) * 2 (since the number you get is radius and not diameter) / 25.4 (metric measure to inches conversion) then add the rim diameter.

225 * .6 = 135.

135 * 2 = 270

270 / 25.4 = 10.63

10.63 + 16 = 26.63..... the diameter of the tire.

It will probably be a little bigger when you buy it, and smaller when it blows and leaves you stranded but this should get you close!

That is all fine in theory, but in the real world there is also the flat patch where the tyre meets the road to take into account. So the actual rolling diameter is a little less - how much depends on the pressure and the load the tyre is carrying.

I guess for an unloaded Ranger on beefy tyres it doesn't matter but a heavy saloon on soft road tyres it can be quite a bit.

The way to work it out is to find a flat, level patch of road/car park and chalk a mark on tyre and road - move car forward 7 tyre revolutions till the tyre mark is on the road and mark the road again - measure the distance between the road marks in inches and divide by 22 to give the true rolling diameter.

2" suspension lift/2" Body lift kit easily tucks 34's x 10.5" tires without consistent rubbing at all.

On 32's without a body lift kit.

32's on getting swapped for 34's. (17" wheels)

34's with added 2" body lift kit, [Yea I know, much like spacers everyone's terrified about what they have zero experience in and or fear] Never had an issue and even with the Flip-pac (294lb weight penalty, not to mention same co-efficient drag as a cinder block) on the back, I've had some "interesting leaps" a few times, no issues.

Not quite sure what all the rage is about 12"+ wide tires on a mid size truck without being on at least a 37"-40" wide tire.  Seems more like a penis envy thing really.. much like full size trucks, 10" of suspension lift, 20" wheels, with only a 1-1.5" difference in diameter. Pig in the rear end is same height off the ground as mine.. MAYBE!  You're not going anywhere I can't follow really.

Average rock was 6"-11" in the stream itself, powered through it in 2WD for the 100 yards or so there was.

Maybe I just haven't been able to find anyone to rationalize it to me beyond a shrug of the shoulders and the Cletus comment of "Well.., Discount tyyrrreee said... thaa's the BIGGEST tire I could done fit on there, so I done it"

Admit it, this place misses my sarcasm and cynical outlook, I kept some of you grounded. lol
