I was a teacher, but was wise enough to get the heck out early on. The integration of special ed students into the regular ed classroom did it for me as the reg ed kids could not be justly served and educated while I planned everything around the emotionally impaired kids in the classroom.
The child my wife is dealing with comes from a intact 2 parent home. They are raising the kid like an add-on, not a loved child. He is emotionally impaired, a holy terror in the school and all the teachers are afraid of him, even the principal. Lone exception is my wife. She does not take guff from any kid.
Anyway, for the first time in her tenure she is having a parent-principal-teacher meeting for this kid. I hope it goes well. I told her to stand her ground and do not apologize, and tell the parents with the principal and union rep present what this kid does in her classroom. I am to the place where I have told her to seriously think about moving on from teaching.
