Got the wire pin locations for the drivers side upstream O2 sensor figured out, cleared the codes & took it for a ride to fill the gas tank & no CEL. Fingers crossed. I will drive it a couple days to & from work, if it stays off I will take it to have the state inspection done.

Sounds good..!

Well today I lucked out and found a couple Rangers in the local Pick-a-Part.. Went there with my Swedish trail buddy and low and behold lookie-lookie what I came across? Can you say Big 12" brake kit in the works...!

I can now..

So looks like I can cancel out my WTB ad in the Classifieds... ;)

I am really surprised how hard it is to find these trucks in JYs. Are there still that high a percentage of these on the road?
Especially when I couldn't walk 5 feet without tripping over a Mustang...

Well when I lived in SoCal they were rare because they were picked over. All of the ones I ever saw it looked like someone had a part time job daily hitting the yard because ALL of the same parts were gone. I been on the boards and owned enough vehicles in general to know whats pulled like it was needed vs Harvested. The Honda/Toyota/Nissan worlds were even worse.

Here in Vegas, its just bad because Vegas is like an Island location or an oasis due to the fact its a good couple hundred miles from the next nearest large city.

There's a reason why you can be 30-85 miles outside of cell range and find some random abandoned town or military base out here. lol

When I lived in Michigan, far less people abusing their vehicles shy of the drunk drivers and parts seemed rather plentiful, unless it was a Honda Civic or a Nissan 240. Anything else worth its weight in gold, say Toyota Supra Mark IV parts would be stripped down over the course of a few days off the forums down to the last bolt and or wire like vultures over a dead carcass.

Drove the truck again to work & back home today & still no CEL. I put my scanner on it to check & I have a P1000 code. How long does it take to make that go away?.

That depends, did you clear it first?  Is it a stored code or a current one?

P1000 is from clearing codes. When you clear the codes you get P1000. I don't know how long it takes it to go away but don't clear again just scan.

I should check to see if mine is still there, cleared the codes after replacing an O2 sensor and got the P1000. It has been a few weeks now, but I seem to have misplaced my bluetooth transmitter or I would fire it up and check.

I just read some and I guess there are other things that can trigger P1000 but I'm sure mine was from resetting because it wasn't there before I reset.

When I cleared my codes after playing with a new scan tool I reviewed, I show no codes at all. After seeing this thread, I did a quick Google search and this is what I found:

https://www.obd-codes.com/p1000

Ohhh, it appears to just be a not ready generic code - so like the evap system might not be ready or the O2 system (slowest to ready up) is waiting for it's required drive cycles to complete before showing ready/failed.

Last time I had to clear codes for smog, it took 100 miles before the ECM "relearned" the engine. That was on a 01 Mercury Sable. Kinda glad I wont have to deal with that with the 91...

Yeah, drive cycles are specific, and sometimes if you don't hit those specifics in the drives you take, it can be a long time before you get them readied up.

They're not relearning the system per sé, just they're more long term monitoring, so they need to have a certain amount of data covering different conditions before they'll say things are ok.

I failed state inspection, it had a P1151 code. I had a melted wire to the l/s O2 sensor harness plug connector. I replaced the l/s O2 sensor & repaired the wire then I cleared the O2 sensor code. I will drive it for a few more days & then recheck it.

You *just* failed with that? then repaired and cleared it?

Sounds like it should be good once you've got the drive cycles in.

Yeah, if you fix the issue, you shouldn't need to clear the code. In fact, in CA, you will have to repay for smog if you clear the code.

Thats because that state likes to tax or penalize you for everything.. Wait until the next 20 new taxes roll down the hill this year.. Bullet tax, Strip club tax (oh yes, its a thing!) $0.49 gas tax... ohh it gets better and better.

They wont tell you about the taxes they already covered and made $4b over what their projections were and rescinded further taxation.. NOPE climbed to $4b in profitability and created 20 more NEW taxes.. Amazing

Public service announcement, always keep an eye on your lift points during the start of any work.

I've never jumped out so fast and ran to throw the wheel back on!

Also, anyone know why the hell the popper studs for the um, what ever this shield is called, are so hard to remove!?!  I've used these fasteners many times over the years, never has it taken 10 minutes+ to pull them out.

How bad is this?

Also, how on earth are you supposed to cinch down the top nuts? it's all i can do to hold the shock top and get it this tight.

When I jack up the front of my Ranger I put the floor jack under the lower control arm. Taht upper ball joint looks trashed. When I put new front shocks in my wife's Explorer Sport which has the same front suspension I opened the hood & used a long extension & my air gun, worked great.

It is for the newer model, i'm guessing '98 onward?  I just looked for the sheet to change the tires, but don't see a pic online, should take a pic of mine.

Yeah, if i'm taking the front up, i use the center cross member, those tabs sit nicely on jack stands if it's up there any longer.
So, i'm not sure how to tell if the joint is trashed yet, but the rubber boot sure is, no idea what's involved with that change out though.

I did consider trying to get the wizzy gun down from inside the engine bay, it would help "shock" the nut on further, but the issue isn't turn it, the issue is holding the shock dust cover to stop it all rotating :(
