When I bought my daily driver, the green 2000 neither door lock motor was working well enough to actuate the lock.

So I bought e-bay lock motors, like 13 bucks a pair.

I found them difficult to install at first but after doing the right side I figured out what I did wrong on the left side and was able to quickly go back in and re do it in a matter of minutes.

Yesterday the driver lock stopped working, froze in the lock position fortunately.

It has only been a little over a year, july of 2007 I bought it and the lock motors was one of the first things to get replaced.

So here is my dilemma, if I buy "genuine ford part" it is like 60 bucks for one and I could have bought 4 pairs of the cheapies by then and kept them in my tool box.

Opinions on this may differ but I don't know how long the originals were lame since I bought the truck used.

I have already made up my mind for this round, I have a cheapie on the way to get me back to being able to get in my car without a key but for the long run... what have others experienced? Is there an aftermarket brand that is a step above the e-bay ones but not "original ford parts" or perhaps a high performance model as expensive as ford but not made out of plastic?

The debate begins.

Let me end your debate. I have a set of door lock motors. I was going to put them in my truck when I converted to power windows but never did. Yours if you want them. I have the motors latches and all the clips and rods

Save them for next round since I already clicked. I'm sure I will need them at some point. Thanks bud.

Generally, I've always spent a few dollars more and replaced the motors with the DEI alarm motors. They've always lasted for years if not a decade or more. At least if they're still made in China, they have a benchmark to meet unlike the masses of counterfeit or knockoffs crap on Ebay. And you'll spend maybe $5 more per motor at $18 a piece.
