I installed 2 12'' Kicker Comp Cvr subwoofers running at 2ohm using a boss riot 1600w for them and after I hooked everything up they worked but as I was tuning the amp every time I tried to cut the bass boost or input up it would always go into protect mode I have tried troubleshooting the issue if it was a bad ground or wiring I redid the sub wiring just to see but same issue and the power wire is good amp cut on wire is good all wiring is good I was googling it and read if you take the speaker wire off the subs and if it did do it then it was wiring but it didn't do it and when you hook the speaker wire back up and it did do it then it was sub wiring so that's when I redid sub wiring but same issue. So I was wondering if someone knew how to solve this or if someone had the same problem please let me know what you got thank you and if you were unclear what I said or need more in depth information ill be sure to let you know what I got thank you below ill provide link on how I wired the subs the subs itself and the amp.:frd

Not to say the amp isnt the issue, but when it goes into protect mode is it thermally or is it Short-mode?

If its heat, that would be the obvious sign that that amplifier either doesn't like a 2ohm load; especially if its in Mono. It maybe okay in a stereo mode but NOT mono.

If its going into short mode, you could have a bad coil in a driver, the driver could also be being OVER-driven causing the coil to short out. (also known as over-excursion)

What ohm load are the drivers again? are they single or dual voice coil? and HOW do you have them wired in the enclosure AND at the amplifier? what gauge is the wire? stranded or solid wire? Grade or quality of the wire? Please dont tell us lamp cord.... !

And so rather than audibly listening to how the sound is coming from these "two twelves" how are you tuning or adjusting this amplifier? Are you using an actual range of Test Tone Sounds and a DVOM or are you going by ear/standing 50 ft in front of the truck kind of thing instead?

Some much needed information here before you go swapping amplifiers and doing the same wiring configuration only to get the same result... trouble shoot first.

And looking at the specs of that amplifier.. I hate to say it because its going to make me sound like an asshole. But the only way that amplifiers is gonna see or show 1600 watts of power is if lightning strikes it.

Let me show you something in the 12-volt world that's reality.

DC watts to amps calculation
The current I in amps (A) is equal to the power P in watts (W), divided by the voltage V in volts (V):
I(A) = P(W) / V(V)
Which means this. Your amplifier is running at 12.4Volt input. There are two (2) 30 amp fuses which shows me there is a draw rate of 60amps or less.

In order to get to 1600 watts of real power, and we're not even talking clean or dirty watts at this point just raw wattage. You would be pulling almost over 129 amps of power from your electrical system in which 75 to 80 amps+ of your 95 amp alternator are running your truck and makes you a candidate for burning up batteries and alternators either on a bi-yearly bases or every other year.
DC amps to watts calculation
The power P in watts (W) is equal to the current I in amps (A), times the voltage V in volts (V):
P(W) = I(A) × V(V)
Using this formula we can really see that that amplifier has a maximum power output of 744 watts... MAYBE while the cars running at 13.4 volts you may see a pubic hair over 800w.  mehbe

So either that company has BIG dreams of their products or they have an amazing and influential marketing bull  tag line thats working overtime and killing it.

It's most likely being rated PMPO, not RMS or similar, not uncommon.

As someone of electronics - You should know in reality RMS doesn't exist. RMS basically "averages" the sine wave values, taking into account of course the fact that power is related to the field value (voltage or current) by the power of 2.

I can almost guarantee the boss amp won't come anywhere near 1600w. take the fuse size, multiply that by 14.4v then take 75% of that & that should be close to it's actual power.

Those subs look to be dual 2ohm, which means 2 of them would either give you a 0.5ohm load or a 2ohm final load to the amp.

Don't know if the amp is stable to 2ohms, but it surely won't handle a 0.5ohm load.
Double check your final impedance with a digital multimeter, if it reads less than 2ohms your wiring is incorrect.
i believe you'd want to run each sub's coil in series to give you 4ohms, then run both of those outputs in parallel to give you 2ohms.

This is my wiring kit that I used. The subwoofers are dvc. So I could be under powering it? How I wired the subwoofers to this exact diagram ill post the link again here. I ran the wires through a small hole in the box so the subwoofers could be wired to gather then ran it to 1 cup on the box. If you wanna know what subwoofers they are or amp look at my original post. Thank you for all the help.:frd

Amp wiring kit is here --> https://www.amazon.com/KnuKonceptz-KCA-Complete-Gauge-Installation/dp/B0050I6KII/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1519910439&sr=8-5&keywords=4+gauge+amp+kit

How I wired the subwoofers exact are here I already have redid it just to make sure that its not it. --> https://images.crutchfieldonline.com/ca/learningcenter/car/subwoofer_wiring/2DVC_2-ohm_mono.jpg

I fixed the issue. A friend had a system in his truck he had 2 12'' subwoofers in his truck also with a better quality amp. So how we figured out the problem was. We were gonna single out the problem. By using his amp on my subs and if it worked and didn't go into protect mode that would show it as my amp was the issue. Or using my amp on his subs and if it worked that would show it would be a subwoofer issue. So what we did first is hooked his subwoofers to my amp which his subwoofers are running at 2ohm just how I have my subs wired. So once we hooked everything up using his subs and my amp it worked perfect we could cut the settings all the way up and it would play high and low notes fine with the amp settings all the way up. So at that point we were like ok that means it had to be a subwoofer wiring issue. But just for the hell of it I said could we use your amp and my subs and he said sure. So we took his amp and plugged it up and it played everything fine we cut the settings up slowly but we could cut them all the way up so were confused. So we were like what's the issue and the only thing that made since was my original amp just couldn't power my subs. Because his amp worked with my subs and we could cut everything up. But my amp and his subs worked fine also. But his subs don't need near as much power as my subs so in the end we just traded amps and everything works fine now.:frd:)

What amp is he using...? Brand and model a + in your response. Subs don' really matter.
