I am already running a twice as large cooler as well.Summit Racing should have the parts, but a speed shop like Level 10 in Hamburg NJ can do everything for you, set up the correct torque converter or sell you any of the parts so you build it yourself. The 5r55e was run in some of the Mustang GT's so it should be able to handle a blown 4.0 liter.

I may have missed it, but what is the target HP/Tq of the engine?

4.0power wrote: Target hp, 300. As for torque couldn’t tell yea lolThe 5r55e that has the beefed up input shaft should work nicely for 300 hp engine. With 300 hp you could put in a 331 gear and provided you can plant most of the HP to the road it could be quicker than a 373 or a 410.

I had a fox body Mustang LX that put out about 350 hp at the rear wheels that was quicker in the quarter mile with a 331 than the 373 that came in the car. It wasn't intentional. I sheared my pinion and the only LS axle I could find in the junk yard that would fit was a 331. The plus side to it I jumped from 16 mpg to 19.

Im no Slushmatic guru but... 5r55e Common issues

Looking at the symptoms as T-Square/Ordinary biker sorta pointed out. Power isn't gonna be your issue. Its the related items that make the Trans have issues that cause the problems inherent to it. If you can outfit it with the right Tq converter, upgrade the cooler to a much larger unit and well placed, run a synthetic fluid if possible, replace the shift solenoids before installing it (if easier), refreshing it altogether AND.., realizing your beefing the trans up to do what you want and need it to do and maybe pull double duty as a daily grinder.. DOES NOT mean its gonna do it on a cruise night with all 234 stop light to stop light testicular moments you find in town that night, let alone every night for the next 5-6 years unhitched without an issue.

I'm positive that's not your intent but you wont be the one going back over this thread at a later date that will need a reminder of the obvious perhaps..

Refresh my memory, are you running the SOHC 4.0 in this truck? If so, i'm pretty confident if you make the above remedies your trucks going to handle another 45-80hp typical of a S/C.

If a 3 cyl Geo metro will take a 55 dry shot several times a  day for 11 months.. I think with a refresh and a bigger trans cooler.. you got this.. lol

EDIT: Suspension greatly, tire width/grip will also increase or decrease the power getting to the ground. You'd be best to figure that out as you're moving forward and in a final form of the project.

Wow, thanks for the input, I ran running the 4.0. I already am running a cooler twice the size as a stocker, plan on changing the pan (if it will clear the exhaust) on the trans for more fluid capacity along with putting a trans temp sensor in it as well. As for suspension, stock leafs, 265/75/16 tires, with a limited slip

Can a input shaft for a 5r55s work with my 5r55e? I can’t seem to find one made for a 5r55e

Are any parts interchangeable between a 55s and a 55e?

Get in touch with Level 10. They can answer those questions.

They put together a great AOD4 tranny/TQ converter package on a Torino project I had back in mid 2000's. It was a 450HP 351W with super charger. Solid 9 MPG city driving but it got 14 on the highway.

There is no such thing as too much information when talking about equipment maintenance.

All wired up along with a led light. Got to say about 45 degrees out side. Pulling a small trailer with a tractor and some junk in the trailer along with the bed full of junk the transmission temp never got over 160
